Two Truths and a Lie

For something a little bit different…on a Friday…I decided to post a little challenge. Well, not really a challenge. More like a thirty second game that everyone can play. It’s called “Two Truths and a Lie” and the object is to state two facts about yourself along with one lie, and everyone else has to guess which is the lie.

Now here’s how it works:

I will state two truths and a lie about myself below, and you will have to guess which statement is the lie (and why you might think that). Then, along with your answer, please include “two truths and a lie” about yourself, and I will try to guess which one is the lie. (Everyone else is free to join in and guess other people’s lies as well…that is, if anyone responds to this…hey, you never know.)

Ready? Okay, here we go.

1. I performed at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony when I was in High School.

2. I was Jeremy Irons’ stand-in for a week on the set of “Die Hard 3.”

3. I toured Europe with “Up With People” when I was in college.

Not as easy as you thought, right? In fact, some of you may be looking at these and thinking they all might be lies. But such is not the case.

Now it’s your turn. Go ahead, play Pinocchio for a minute. I know you can do it. What kind of creative truths and lies can you tell us about yourself?

I'm going to go with 3; the other two look like they're trying to be red herrings. (Though this would be easier if I had any idea who "Up With People" are.) My turn, then.

1. I work under Southern California's best teacher of test prep for multiple teacher-tests.

2. I've had two novels published.

3. I once played in a middle school band good enough to shock Disneyland stage managers.

Coming up with these is more difficult than it sounds.

Yeah, I'm with Ravyn. It's hard. I thought I'd pop in and come up with something.....uh....nope. Sorry. But I love the concept! How fun! I'll pick #3 too, by the way.

Ravyn--Thanks for playing. Like you, I think number 2 and 3 are red herrings, and number 1 is the lie. And yes, these aren't as easy to come up with as people think. I will reveal my "lie" in a few days.

Lin--Thanks for participating. BTW, "Up With People" is like a youth choir that sings positive upbeat music. They do tours all over America and Europe--very popular in the seventies and eighties.

I'm thinking, even though I've never met you, that you do NOT look like Jeremy Irons...therefore #2 must be the lie. Ok, here's mine:

1. I gave more than 30 solo piano recitals at the Little Theater of the Columbus Art Gallery.

2. I played 2nd viola with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

3. Even though I am a girl, I sang with the Columbus Boy's Choir for 3 years.

Well I am going to say that #2 is the lie.

I like to swim upstream...lol!!:-)

So you say one for my list--is that your final answer?

Mine's actually two; I've never had anything longer than a short story published. The teacher test prep, on the other hand, has been going on for years, and I'm about to go into my second class as a full teacher rather than just an assistant.

's been fun!

I'll play, because of course I should be working. I'll say that #1 is the lie for Ray- just to be different. Ravyn- you already gave yours away! Judy #1- I bet you did this, but not over 30 recitals.

Here are mine

1. I rode a bicycle from the Pacific to the Atlantic

2. I've hiked 3 National Scenic Trails

3. I've gone snorkeling in Haiti

Oh crap, that is hard.

Henson, if that is you in your avatar photo and it wasn't ripped out of an ad, you are covering your eyes so i can't tell your age. But you might be a little young to have been in "Up With People" methinks.

I'm going with number one.

Okay here are mine

1) I once worked in a funeral home and one day the power went out. I had to plug the only working phone into a jack in the basement and answer calls next to deceased people outside the enbalming room. I still have nightmares.

2) When i was five, my mother, cousins, and I were in the audience when my aunt was on Bowling for Dollars locally. I was picked out of the audience to have a few questions asked of them because they thought a little kid would have funny answers. I didn't because I was too nervous

3) I met John Travolta. I used to live not to far from him. He likes to eat at this one sushi place and that is where I saw him. He was very nice, and he was a good sport, as he signed my BeeGees CD. That was the only thing I had in the car that was remotely related to him. It was a couple years ago, though.

Okay...I meant to say that Up with people was the lie, the other two were true. at first i read it that only one was true :)

okay I went with #2

Now here are mine.

1.I have some very high up connections with our government.

2. I hold an F.B.I. clearance

3. I hold a Doctorate in Criminal Justice.

Okay, so here is my answer....(drum roll, please)...I never went on tour with "Up With People," so Ravyn and Lin were correct. Congrats...you know me so well...heh, heh...

Judy--no, I do not look like Jeremy Irons, but a stand-in only has to be the same height, weight, coloring, and of similar stature. A body double would have to actually look like the person. Now for my guess on yours: I say #2 is a lie. The third one just sounds too implausible to be a lie.

Ravyn--I was hoping #2 was only a red herring...but who knows? Maybe #2 will become a truth someday as well.

Sharkbytes---Hmmm...these were tough...because they all are of a similar bent...okay, I say #2...it sounds the least exciting of the three.

TheSnackHound---Maybe I'm older than my picture suggests...heh, heh...I say #1 is the lie. Because having John Travolta sign a Bee Gees record is the kind of embarrassing reality I live in, so I can believe it actually happened.

Shinade---I say that #1 is the lie.

Well, you were not correct. I DID live near John Travolta and know what Sushi place he went to (I'll tell you for $20. no i will tell you for free but then you have to get his autograph for me LOL. but i never met him.)

That was the lie.

I DID work in a funeral home where that actually happened. I was a receptionist way up in the office when the power went off. All the phones were a multiline electronic system so the only way the calls could come in is the ONE single phone jack in the basement and I sat there on a little stool between the furnace and the embalming room.

Yes, my aunt was on Bowling for Dollars and they put a microphone in my face and I was too terrified to say anything.

OK, Henson...you got me, I did NOT play 2nd viola in the Columbus Symphony, but a good friend did and my brother played oboe with CSO. I was going to try out as pianist, but their schedule was too stringent and I didn't have time. Sigh...Good guess.

Got cha' it's #3 that is wrong! All of the others are true.

I hold a clearance to enter Nuclear plants, Military bases, and all government complexes when I travel with my hubby.

As for Government connections. I have a nephew who holds a fairly high clearance with the CIA, and a SIL who is 2nd in charge in the state he lives in with Homeland Security, and, he is personal friends with the Governor of the state, and of course the Senators and Congressmen.

Who would have thunk it? This was fun. I hope you keep it up!!

Jackie:-)
